Prosecutors profess that Anthony used chloroform to send her daughter into unconciousness prior to duct taping her mouth and suffocating her. Caylee's remains were discovered in December 2008 near the Anthony residence.
However, Anthony's defense attorneys argue that Caylee simply drowned in the Anthonys' above-ground swimming pool in June of 2008. Anthony and her father, George, panicked upon finding the body, and quickly covered up the tragedy. George denied that testimony, which was made by Casey.
There is also the possibility of a murderous nanny, who has remained reclusive and has not been found by Orlando authorities. However, Casey Anthony has been proven to be a compulsive liar, and the nanny, along with several other alleged acquaintances, are believed by many to be fictitious.
Prosecutors also still hold fast to the proposition that Anthony desired a life free of responsibilities, something that has seemed to captivate the Floridian jury and which is a major factor in the ongoing trial of Casey Anthony.
