Jurors in Orlando, Florida are finally entering the long-awaited final stretch of the well-publicised trial of Casey Anthony. The Orlando native is already being charged with seven criminal counts, including child abuse and misleading police. However, if she is convicted of the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, Anthony might be facing the death penalty. She has pleaded not guilty to any of the previous charges, and of course denies any involvement in her daughter's death.Prosecutors profess that Anthony used chloroform to send her daughter into unconciousness prior to duct taping her mouth and suffocating her. Caylee's remains were discovered in December 2008 near the Anthony residence.
However, Anthony's defense attorneys argue that Caylee simply drowned in the Anthonys' above-ground swimming pool in June of 2008. Anthony and her father, George, panicked upon finding the body, and quickly covered up the tragedy. George denied that testimony, which was made by Casey.
There is also the possibility of a murderous nanny, who has remained reclusive and has not been found by Orlando authorities. However, Casey Anthony has been proven to be a compulsive liar, and the nanny, along with several other alleged acquaintances, are believed by many to be fictitious.
Prosecutors also still hold fast to the proposition that Anthony desired a life free of responsibilities, something that has seemed to captivate the Floridian jury and which is a major factor in the ongoing trial of Casey Anthony.
